People say you don't know what you've got until its gone. Truth is you knew what you had, you just didn't think you would loose it.

Do we need another War

It has been some time since I cogitated on world affairs, but then there was nothing to reverberate upon. I had been following the growing tension in the gulf, as Iran ensued upon its nuclear program, giving the paranoid Americans something to harangue the world, about. In the recent past Americans have come upon as rather lame, when it came to invading countries on one pretense or other. The stratagem however remained the same. Ascendency over the oil fields. It is no wonder then, they are so perturbed about Iran’s nuclear prominence.
Not long ago, it was seen how America and its allies were left occupying a country where they were not greeted as liberators. Iraq had erupted into sectarian violence. In all the United States spent more than 800 billion dollars in Iraq and yet was unable to occupy what could have been an easy spout to douse its oil hungry conglomerates. The war that had started as the first televised war in history, making “Scud” and “Patriot” house hold names came to an end almost nine years later, leaving Iraq vulnerable to meddling by Sunni Arab nations and Iran. Why then, there is no reprimand for hostile act committed by the Americans gone unpunished, when no WMD were found in Iraq. Mr. Saddam Hussein, even if a dictator was Iraq’s problem in the first place.
Perhaps the end of Iraq war is to do with Washington’s focus on Asia, fuelled by concerns over China’s growing navy and arsenal of anti ship missiles that could jeopardize America’s military dominance in the pacific and access to the mineral rich south Asian sea. Till now China has been neutral post Korean War which had turned tables on America with its entrance, bringing the might of the super power to the negotiating table. It is no conundrum to understand why America finds it difficult to topple the North Korean dictator. Korea being a closed economy is hardly affected by the sanctions that are imposed upon it and while it keeps close ties with China, there is little that America can do except grimace upon its inability to do anything about it.
It is a known fact that India and China are the biggest consumers of the Iranian oil. Asking them to stop this purchase doesn’t make sense pertaining to the fact that two of the refineries are just adept to process the Iranian oil. More over there aren’t any substitute to it. The ersatz threats may only result in the revival of lot of cottage industries. Yes, it could mean conglomerates like Pepsi, coke and Ford may have to wind up in India. Tit for tat is what it is called. While this would open up competition in the Indian markets. It would once again instill self reliance model as taught by Gandhi may come in to play.
Why America can’t impose sanctions, that could hurt the south Asian economy also relies on the fact, that south Asia , is a booming economy and competition is fought on an even terrain, not by empty threats. It is a known fact that being allies with the super power hasn’t helped any nation. Pakistan is in shambles with a civil unrest at hand, UK and Australia have lost soldiers in Afghanistan, a war that wasn’t instigated by them. It may be asked, an Australian soldier who was born on a different continent made to fight a different country’s war. It is not his war. Whether Iran acquires a nuclear status is no one’s business, except Iran itself.
It was made clear by the Iranian president, that the nuclear program has been developed entirely for peaceful purposes and yet, the country is being threatened with sanctions and war. The regime may be toppled in a clean sweep, no doubt about that, but then who is answerable for all the human life lost. While the threats of nuclear weapons have loomed large over the world, it has just been used as an excuse by the locust army to ravage the resources or to bring in dummy governments of yes men. The recent burning of the Holy Quran just proves intolerance towards every non Christian religion in the world. What the American Government fails to understand is that these acts of hostility towards the Islamic world does more damage than invading on the pretext of bringing peace. While them so vehemently preach, how they want the world to be free from the anathema of terrorism, and yet these acts give birth to radicals who swear vengeance in the name of religion. It can be said that the fodder for a new generation of extremists is provided itself by the supreme power.
Perhaps I may be wrong and Americans are just pesky salesmen trying to invade your house selling their cokes and Mc Donald and if you say no, be prepared for a war, as war sells like none other. It might just re-elect Obama to a second term in office, who’s only accomplishment in his four years of tenure in office was perhaps the sneaky attack in Abotta bad killing Osama bin laden.
